This 1966 D-35 is an excellent sounding vintage Martin in technically perfect and great condition. The playability and string action are very pleasant, the neck angle is good, the frets are in good condition and the sound is as you would expect from a much-played D-35: powerful, balanced, great mids and basses!

The rare “Brazilian Rosewood” used for the back & sides has a beautiful grain and the necessary Cites papers are of course available and included.

This instrument has been played a lot over the decades, which you can not only hear, but logically also see on the instrument. Scratches, traces of playing, the usual fine superficial cracks in the nitro lacquer and small imperfections are therefore present. Unfortunately, the original Martin case no longer exists, but a high-quality SCC hard case in black is available and included.

The guitar has been restringed in our workshop by our luthiery technicians, professionally adjusted and is in perfect technical condition and ready to play.

The following work was carried out in our workshop:

  • Fingerboard Binding secured again in a loose position
  • Professional setup
  • String change 12/53 PHB

The D-35 was first launched by Martin at the end of the 1960s and quickly became one of the legendary manufacturer’s most popular models alongside the D-18 and the D-28. Like other high-quality Martin dreadnoughts, a good D-35 is characterized by a very voluminous, assertive sound with great mids and basses. Visually, the D-35 is quickly recognizable by the characteristic 3-piece rosewood back, which was introduced by Martin at a time when rosewood was in short supply. Earlier models up to around 1969 can still be found with brazilian rosewood, from 1969 onwards Indian rosewood can be found on the back and sides. Other characteristic features of a D-35 are: Grover Rotomatic tuners, white binding on the neck, a lighter bracing compared to other Martin dreadnoughts, which provides more power in the bass or low-end.

To this day, the D-35 is one of Martin Guitars’ most popular dreadnoughts, alongside the aforementioned D-18 and D-28 models, and by the mid-seventies it had even become Martin’s top seller.
