An absolute dream guitar and a very rare piece of music history! This Martin OOO-18 built in 1938 is one of only 275 instruments built by Martin in this one year as the OOO-18 model. How many of them still exist today and sound so incredibly good is the question.
In terms of sound, it is an absolute dream and simply offers everything you can and would expect from an old and perfectly balanced Martin of this quality: open, warm, balanced, dynamic, sustain without end, very pleasant playability, great light weight.
The condition of the guitar is also impressive, even though some absolutely professional restoration work was carried out during its lifetime.
To our knowledge, the following work was carried out according to the documentation:
- The back was removed and later reattached neatly to the rest of the Body to repair a crack in the Top
- Professional neck reset
- Cracks in sides repaired and partially reinforced from the inside
- New frets
- The bridge was replaced with a new, high-quality replacement
- The original paint has been professionally oversprayed
- Original case no longer available and has been replaced by a new Martin hard case
We have carefully inspected the guitar in our Professional luthier’s workshop and can confirm the very good condition and quality of the work carried out.
In terms of documentation and provenance, this guitar leaves nothing to be desired. A “Huttons Registry” certificate with a detailed description is included, as well as a letter from Martin himself.
