Acoustic guitar or Classical Guitar? Which is the right choice?
Classical Guitars are generally very suitable as beginner instruments for children or young people who are not yet fully grown. On the one hand, Classical Guitars are available in various smaller sizes, so there is a suitable shape for almost every body size. Secondly, Classical Guitars are strung with nylon strings, which are softer and easier and more comfortable to play, especially for less experienced players.
Although acoustic guitars are not available in children’s sizes, they are generally available in different bodyshapes from small to large. So there is something for almost every body size. As they are strung with steel strings, acoustic guitars are not quite as soft to the touch as Classical Guitars, but you can quickly get used to this.
Adults should decide according to the preferred sound and style of music and choose either a Classical Guitar or an acoustic guitar based on these criteria. Here too, however, there is no right or wrong.
What types of acoustic guitars are there? Which is the right one?
What types and sizes of acoustic guitars are there? Which one is right for me?Basically, it can be said that there is no right or wrong answer. Choosing the right type of acoustic guitar for your own needs is very individual and different for everyone. However, there are a few points that can help you choose the right guitar:
Larger guitar shapes such as dreadnought, grand auditorium or jumbo are very suitable for chords and strumming, as they have more bass and mids, which results in a fuller and warmer sound.
Smaller acoustic guitars such as O, OO, OOO or Parlor have a comparatively more trebly and clearer sound, making them ideal for fingerstyle or fingerpicking.
If you are looking for an acoustic guitar that is suitable for both chords and fingerstyle, the OM (Orchestra Model) body shape, for example, can be a good choice.
For other purposes, there are of course other types of acoustic guitars such as 12-strings, travel guitars or baritone guitars.

Pickups for acoustic guitars – What options are there?
Nowadays there are countless different pickup systems for acoustic guitars. Most common models are based either on a piezoelectric system that is installed under the bridge of the guitar or on a microphone that is mounted inside the guitar’s body. Particularly high-quality systems offer both in one system. When amplifying the acoustic guitar, you can choose between the piezo, the microphone or a mix of both. The systems described above, for example from L.R Baggs or MISI, are usually active and are powered by a battery, rechargeable battery or capacitor. However, there are also passive pickup systems for acoustic guitars such as the K&K Pure Western Mini.
In addition to piezos or microphones, there are also so-called magnetic soundhole pickups for acoustic guitars, which are clamped into the soundhole of the acoustic guitar underneath the sides.
The following also applies when choosing the right pickup for your own acoustic guitar: There are various solutions and it depends on the desired sound, the guitar and the planned area of use. Ideally, however, you should make sure that you invest in a high-quality pickup so that you end up with a satisfactory result.
We specialize in the installation of pickups and install hundreds of pickups in acoustic guitars and other instruments every year. We therefore have a large selection of different systems in stock at all times and can advise you perfectly on your choice.

Woods in guitar making
Many different types of wood are used in the construction of acoustic guitars. Spruce or cedar is usually used for the top. However, there are many different top woods for Western guitars, such as mahogany.
Mahogany or rosewood is usually or very often used for the back and sides of guitars. Here too, however, there are countless types of wood that can be considered and used. In the end, the combination of the type of wood used, the quality of the wood, the construction and the design make up a large part of the sound character of an acoustic guitar.
What is a cutaway? Acoustic guitar with cutaway or without?
A cutaway is a cut-out or recess in the body of the guitar. This is used to make it easier to reach the high registers when playing the guitar. Traditionally, acoustic guitars were usually built without a cutaway. Today, however, the most common designs of acoustic guitars are generally available with or without a cutaway.
Guitar strings for acoustic guitars
The standard factory string gauge for most acoustic guitars is usually 012. There are other thinner string gauges in 010 and 011 and thicker string gauges in 013 or thicker, for example for open tunings or baritone guitars. Thicker strings require a little more force when gripping, but they sound fuller. Thinner strings are easier to grip, but the thinner the gauge used, the thinner they sound. The choice of the right guitar string for acoustic guitars therefore depends on the sound you want and how much force you can or want to use when picking. We will be happy to advise you on choosing the right string for your guitar.
