The founder Stanislav Petko Marinov started making violins in 1979, and after the fall of the Iron Curtain in 1990 he founded Expos Music and became the first importer of well-known guitar brands for Slovakia.

He later turned his attention to building acoustic guitars. Today, the name Dowina stands for a European family business in which all instruments are handcrafted with great care.
