Modern sounds with Julie Malía, the workshop at Munich Guitar Company on 13.06.2026:
The musical spectrum of guitarist Julie Malía is broad and ranges from classical concert literature to modern fingerstyle and her own songs. Her arrangements combine artful voice leading with sophisticated accompaniment technique and are at the same time based on a sound guitaristic craft. Characteristic are unusual chord voicings, differentiated strumming and picking patterns, percussive techniques on the body and strings as well as a driving groove, which combine to create a versatile and modern sound concept.
This workshop focuses on modern playing techniques on the acoustic guitar – both on nylon and acoustic guitar. Using song examples, grooves and “flow & groove” warm-ups, these techniques will be introduced, tried out in practice and applied musically. The aim is to discover new tonal possibilities and immerse yourself in the crossover world of the acoustic guitar.
The techniques presented on strings and Body are always in a musical context and are fun right from the start. In addition, modern warm-ups ensure that technique is not perceived as a dry exercise, but can be directly experienced musically. The “modern sounds” taught can help to rework material that has already been played or, ideally, to develop your own ideas for pieces.
Basic knowledge of the guitar is a prerequisite. The teaching material is provided in both notation and tablature.
