Once described by Gibson as the “King of the Flattops”, the legendary Gibson SJ200 is still one of the most famous acoustic guitar models ever and the list of famous players of this model is endless and includes legends such as Bob Dylan, Jimmy Page, George Harrison, John Lennon and many more.

The SJ200 was first launched by Gibson in 1937 and is still an integral part of the Gibson Acoustic range today. Spectacular editions, special models, signature models and custom store versions of this guitar have been produced by Gibson over the years. Early years of the SJ200 in particular fetch astronomically high prices on the vintage market today and are highly sought-after collector’s items.

This SJ200, built in 1965, serial number 515375, including original case, is a great example with unmistakable Gibson vintage tone and great patina. The instrument has been played a lot and has seen a lot, which can be seen on the instrument. Scratches, traces of use and original varnish with the typical nitro crackles included.

The technical condition was carefully checked in our master workshop and is flawless: good neck angle, very comfortable string action and playability, new frets. All the work that could be required on an acoustic guitar of this age has been carried out.

The following repairs and modifications have been professionally carried out on the guitar over the years:

  • Conversion of the original and height-adjustable bridge inlay with screws to a classic bridge inlay made of bone. The screw holes were sealed with wood as shown in the photos.
  • New bone saddle.
  • The guitar has been refretted and the frets are in perfect condition.
  • The guitar was probably once given a neck reset.
  • Existing cracks in the Top were professionally reinforced, filled and secured.
  • A very good sounding and functioning K&K pickup is installed.
  • The wooden walkway was doubled up at an earlier date.
  • The original tuners have been replaced with original vintage Grover tuners.

The sound of this vintage jumbo is wonderfully powerful, assertive and warm. Great guitar, definitely try it out with us!
