Koaloha Opio instruments are made in Thailand according to Koaloha’s exact specifications and construction plans by the renowned manufacturer Rebel, which itself has been known for some time for its great instruments in the ukulele scene. The talented Thai master builders were specially trained by Koaloha for this collaboration. The result are great instruments that offer real Koaloha sound in an attractive price range!
The story of Koaloha begins in 1995, when Alvin Okami founded the manufactory with the help of his family on the island of Hawaii. Legend has it that he was asked by the owners of a souvenir store to make small ukulele miniatures, which later led to the idea of building the first “real” instruments. All handcrafted and using the highest quality woods such as the famous Hawaiian koa.
To this day, Koaloha is a Hawaiian family business that has become one of the best-known names in the world when it comes to high-quality, solidly built ukuleles.
The construction of Koaloha ukuleles has some special features that differ from the “conventional” construction of other manufacturers: Tops and backs, for example, are glued directly onto the sides. The bracing used is also a proprietary development that is not found in other manufacturers.
