The D-45, a dreadnought with Style 45 appointments, is the absolute top model among the dreadnought series of the legendary American manufacturer. In the “First Series”, i.e. between 1933 and 1942, just 91 instruments with these specifications were produced, which are incredibly rare today and fetch astronomically high prices on the vintage market.
Production was then discontinued in 1942 due to the Second World War and only resumed around 1968 with the “Second Series”.
These are the typical visual characteristics of a Martin D-45: Top made of Sitka spruce, sides & back made of rosewood (Brazilian Rosewood or Indian Rosewood depending on the year of manufacture and series), fingerboard made of ebony and inlays made of abalone as far as the eye can see. There were also 12-fret models built, but in most cases a D-45 is a 14-fret dreadnought.
This 2007 model, including its original Martin case, is in exceptionally good condition.
Small scratches, a few traces of use and the usual “playwear” are present, but apart from that the guitar is really clean and in great condition. It has been played a lot and is well broken in, but it has also been treated well. You can hear and see that!
The guitar is also in very good technical condition: the neck angle is perfect, the frets show hardly any signs of wear and the string action is very comfortable. The guitar has also had a professional setup and a string change in our workshop.
The sound is typical of a rosewood dreadnought, wonderfully clear and balanced, with great mids and basses.
This is a great opportunity for anyone who has always been looking for a very good example of this legendary model: a collector’s item and a great player at the same time, definitely try it!
